Q Wine Reviews

Vintner Nick Stacy describes his Chardonnay as, “Pure vineyard preservation married to integrated oak influences. Tidy gear this. The fruit is sourced from the Margaret River region with some new oak used but mostly second and third use for eleven months. No lees stirring or MLF.An oyster shell aromas gets me in the mood from the get-go. There’s a herby thing sitting in the background. A generous squeeze of lemons and a little under ripe white fleshed nectarine. Oak has a subtle influence and is well handled. Fury peach skin feels push through the mouth but it seems a little linear. More relaxed on the second day of tasting, some time in the glass would help.Drink to five years.

Clandestine Vineyards 2020 Margaret River Wine #chardonnay- Barrel fermented with a creamy/ buttery bouquet with some stone fruit & a splash of citrus. Lovely creamy, rich mouth filling but tight palate with a divine lingering finish. TRULY SUPERB!!

This is a leaner style from the famous Gin Gin clone that is synonymous with West Australian chardonnay. The very fast and snappy early vintage means that this has already had nearly11 months in oak. All barrel fermented but there has been no lees stirring or malolactic fermentation, so the crisp fine acidity has been maintained. It’s clean and pure with a peachy melon mouthfeel. It has a generosity in the mouth with the oak lightly applied making for a fruit driven style that’s ideal for drinking over the next three years.
